In commemoration of the 2026 edition of World Dance Day, Alliance Française Port Harcourt, in collaboration with Tru Dance Art, successfully organized a four-day contemporary dance workshop tagged My Dance & I for professional dancers in Port Harcourt.
Held from April 27 to April 30, 2026, the workshop was facilitated by Adewale Alebiosu, a choreographer, artistic director, and dance educator based in Abuja. Renowned for using dance as a tool for advocacy, cultural exchange, and community development, he has collaborated with notable organizations such as British Council, UNFPA, UNICEF, Youth Hub Africa, and the U.S. Embassy Nigeria.
The workshop engaged participants in both theoretical and practical sessions, covering industry insights, creative exploration, technical development, the business of dance, and performance preparation. Participation grew steadily from 10 to 17 dancers, reflecting strong interest and commitment.
Key highlights included engaging industry discussions, dynamic movement sessions, and a final live performance streamed across multiple platforms. The workshop successfully achieved its objectives enhancing participants’ skills, fostering creative expression, and promoting professional growth within the local dance community.
