Francophonie Month at Alliance Française Port Harcourt – March 2026

Every year in March, the global Francophone community celebrates the richness and diversity of the French language during Francophonie Month. At the Alliance Française Port Harcourt, this special month is marked by a vibrant programme of cultural, educational, and artistic activities bringing together students, teachers, schools, universities, and the wider community.

A Month to Celebrate the French Language

Throughout March, the Alliance Française Port Harcourt celebrates the French language and the cultures of the Francophone world. The programme highlights the importance of language learning, cultural exchange, and creativity while strengthening connections between schools, universities, teachers, and cultural actors in Rivers State.

Book Sale – Discover French Literature at Affordable Prices

The celebrations traditionally begin with our Francophonie Book Sale.

For the entire month of March, visitors are invited to come to the Alliance Française Port Harcourt and explore a selection of books from our former stock and French novels available at very reduced prices ranging from 500 to 5,000 naira.

This initiative aims to encourage reading and make French literature more accessible to everyone. Visitors will be able to browse through a wide variety of books and discover new authors while building their personal library.

Francophonie Week – Schools Competition

The highlight of the celebrations takes place during Francophonie Week, which this year revolves around the theme:

“Un futur à venir”

(“A Future to Imagine.”)

During this week, schools from Rivers State will participate in competitions designed to encourage creativity and French language expression among students.

These activities provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their French skills while celebrating the values of the Francophone world.

The Grand Finale – Saturday, 21 March 2026

Exchange for French Teachers

As part of the programme, a dedicated session will be organised for French teachers in Rivers State, in partnership with the Nigerian Association of Teachers of French.

This event will also include teachers from the Alliance Française Port Harcourt and will serve as a moment of professional exchange, collaboration, and reflection on the teaching of French in the region.

Celebrating Francophonie with University Students

The Francophonie celebrations will also bring together students from several universities in Port Harcourt, including:

University of Port Harcourt

Rivers State University

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education

This gathering will create a space for dialogue, cultural exchange, and celebration of the French language among university students studying French.

The celebrations will conclude with a Grand Finale on Saturday, 21 March 2026, a festive event open to the public.

The day will feature:

An Art & Craft Market showcasing local artists and artisans

A Prize Ceremony celebrating the best candidates of the DELF Prim, DELF Junior, and DELF Tout Public

Special recognition awards for the French teachers who guided these successful candidates

By honouring both students and teachers, the Alliance Française highlights the essential role teachers play in supporting students’ success in learning French.

The evening will conclude with a live concert by Preach Artistry, bringing the Francophonie celebrations to a joyful and musical close.
